Central Maine Man Dies in Thursday Crash on I-95
If you were wondering why I-95 Exit 113 was closed for a few hours on Thursday afternoon, we know the reason.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, an Augusta man is dead following a Thursday afternoon crash that happened near Augusta on the I-95.
The press release explains that, on Thursday (September 4th) afternoon, just after 1 o’clock, Maine State Police Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on the southbound exit 113 off-ramp of I-95 in Augusta.
Investigators say 54-year-old Shaun McFarlin of Augusta was driving a 2006 Ford pickup on the ramp when he went off the road, causing the truck to roll over. McFarlin did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say he was not wearing a seatbelt and that speed is believed to have played a role.
Augusta Fire and Rescue, Maine DOT, and AC Towing all assisted at the scene. The ramp was shut down for about an hour and a half while crews worked. The investigation is still ongoing.
Our thoughts go out to Mr. McFarlin's family and friends during this difficult time.
So far, 2025 has been a deadly year on Maine roads. As of the beginning of September there have been at least 112 traffic fatalities in 2025. In 2024, there were 120 deaths, in 2023, there were 79, and in 2022 there were 119. This data comes from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
