The Spanish ship El Galeon will return to Portland the Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend and stay through June 13.

The ship will 'tie up' at the Maine Warf and is a sight to see. It’s a replica of a Colonial-era Spanish galleon that sailed in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Unlike an original Spanish galleon, this one is made of a fiberglass hull and modern materials.

The ship is based in Spain in Sevilla and was launched in 2009. It will open for public tours at $10 for adults and $5 for kids. During the evenings it will be available for private charter.

Proceeds from the visit will support the educational and leadership-training mission of the organization, giving Maine youth the opportunity to sail aboard these boats.
