According to  News Center Maine, the Union Fair & Maine Wild Blueberry Festival, has canceled for the 2020 season.  The fair was expected to run from Saturday, August 22 through Saturday, August 29, 2020, but will not take place due to the corona virus pandemic. It comes at no shock, considering many other Central Maine Fairs have cancelled their 2020 events, as well.

So much more than just a midway full of rides and food concessions, the Union Fair (as with many Maine agricultural fairs) celebrates life in Maine. At these fairs, you can see young kids coming together to show their prize-winning animals in 4-H shows, the historical society dresses up in outfits that bring us back to times we can only imagine. The entertainment stages at these fairs are filled with local and national talent.

Sadly, this year, it appears as though none of that will take place.

What will Summer and late Fall look like without the local fairs and festival to attend? I can imagine its going to look pretty sad without the fun bright midway lights and the screaming kids as they meet up with their friends, they haven’t seen all summer, before getting the thrill of their lives on their favorite midway rides.

As sad as it is, I will cherish the years, pictures and memories I have over the past 31 years of being a carnie and those are what will hold me over until then/  Let's be "glass half full" people.  And, let's look forward to the 2021 fair season.
