It Looks Like Maine Could Actually See a White Christmas
If you grew up in Maine, there is a good chance that some of your fondest memories of Christmas include your town being blanketed by a coat of white snow.
Sadly, in recent years, that experience is becoming less and less common.
Whether you believe in "global warming" or not, there is no doubt that we are experiencing climate change.
Maine is seeing later falls and earlier springs. During some years, we don't get our first real snowstorm until January.
As that trend continues, we are becoming more accustomed to the idea that the backdrop for Christmas will include bare ground and brown grass.
Will Maine Have a White Christmas in 2024?
Despite the lack of snow we have had for the last few Christmases, it looks like Christmas 2024 may actually end up being snowy.
According to Weather.com, between Thursday, December 19, and Saturday, December 21, much of Maine will see several winter weather events. It does not look like it is going to be one storm, instead, it will be a series of smaller storms.
The meteorological website is calling for us to get as much as a foot spread across those three days.
In the days following the snow events, temperatures across much of Maine are not expected to rise above the low 30s. Becuase of this, there is little chance that the snow will melt.
So, it looks like there is a good chance that Maine will actually have a white Christmas this year.
Keep in mind that this article was written on December 12, just under two weeks before Christmas.
A lot can change in that amount of time.
