We are almost one month into winter and after a cold and snowy start we have received a nice little January thaw. It's been great with enough snow for skiers and to snowmobile without it being a very harsh winter. Of course, we still have two months of winter left!

One of my favorite places in Maine is Mount Blue State Park in Weld. I've lived in Maine almost all of my life and I had never been to Mount Blue State Park until a few years ago when my old roommate, Mike and his cousin Matt, took me hiking on Tumbledown Mountain.

Coming up on February 2nd, Mount Blue State Park will be hosting it's annual 'Take It Outside!' Winter Family Fun Day. Events will be going on from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Enjoy a day of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sliding, hay rides and nature walks. There will also be bonfires and hot food.

Equipment and expert instructions will be available. So, if you are venturing out to try something new, don't worry! Just bundle up and spend some quality time outdoors with the family.

There is a $1.50 fee for ages 12 to 64. Everyone else is free. For more details visit the Maine Division of Parks and Public Lands website.
