Woman Suing eBay Over Selling Plots on the Sun

A woman in Spain, Maria Duran, is suing eBay because they will not allow her to sell the ‘sun’ on their website. She had been selling 11 square-foot plots for $1 each and had received 600 orders before eBay shut her down.

She is suing eBay and a Spanish court has agreed to hear her case.  She argues she did not violate the seller’s agreement on the site and wants $11,000 in damages. She says there is loophole the UN’s Outer Space Treaty. It states that no ‘nation’ can lay claim to ownership to a heavenly body, but says nothing about 'individuals'.

eBay tried to settle the case out of court but she refused. She said she will continue to sell property on the sun on her own website while the case is ongoing.
