Back To School

An 11 year old girl from Stuarts Draft elementary School in Virginia was not allowed to use ChapStick when her lips became chapped. In fact, none of the students in the school are allowed to use ChapStick, it is deemed ‘inappropriate’.

With school starting to get under way, I wanted to take a moment and remind everybody to talk to your kids about bullying.  I know what it feels like to be bullied and I would hate for anyone else to feel this way.

It never ceases to amaze me when I'm paying for something and the cashier can't seem to figure out how to give me change back.  If you are 13 years old or older, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to count back change.

A 17 year old school girl from Dyer County High School in Tennessee said ‘bless you’ when a fellow student sneezed and she got suspended. Kendra Turner said she didn’t think it was big deal to say the words when someone sneezed but she ended up in the principal’s office and spent the rest of the day in an in-school suspension.

Summer vacation means no more school but even more appealing to kids, no more homework. The small town of Hallstahammars, Sweden is considering banning homework completely.  Leena Millberg, the head of schools in the town says government officials are investigating the proposal.

Jessie White, a 99 year old women in Maine, finally graduated from college. She received her diploma from Beal College 75 years after graduating. She said it now completes her life.

The children of Benton Elementary had their Art Show last night and, I have to say, the creations were amazing! Anderson invited me and his grandparents, Daryl and Sylvia, to see his work last night along with Bradley's. Chad and Brad couldn't go because he had baseball practice but we made sure to find his piece, too!

The children chanted his name: Louie! Louie! Louie! And Louie will now be known as Superman! It's not every day ONE MAN saves an ENTIRE school!

She had been talking about it all week. Her teachers knew. Her classmates knew. She was going to be a princess for one night. And her dad couldn't wait!

As a little girl, I remember getting a peanut and jelly sandwich in my lunchbox. My thermos was always filled with milk. And I NEVER traded my food! Mom made a great sandwich. But what I LOVED about being little was my very own lunch box. I got to pick it out all by myself!

Modern media is pretty simple to understand. The problem is teenagers don't think older people, like their teachers, can learn or use things like Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat. But....yes. Yes, we can! And we LOOOOOVE reading what you write about us!

Thank you, Tiffany Estabrook, for telling me to get the tissues. I needed them. These children in Canada give back to a woman whose simple gesture has touched them for the past 7 years. And she is so deserving.

This is TERRIBLE news!! You know how much I love music!! I can't live without it! And now kids might be denied the opportunity to play an instrument or develop their brains with the gift of the knowledge of music!

I'm 39 years old and I still love to watch Sesame Street every once in a while. Who can resist those furry monsters? 'The Hunger Games' is very popular right now with the new movie hitting theaters soon. Sesame Street is always on top of things and keeps things current even though they sometimes show the shorts I used to watch when I was 5...
