A 20 year old man is dead following a Thursday afternoon pedestrian versus motor vehicle crash in Auburn.

According to an article on the WABI TV 5 website, the deceased was pushing a bike across Minot Avenue at the intersection with Madison Street in Auburn when he was struck by an SUV.  Following the crash, which happened right after 3 PM, the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Pending notification of next of kin, the man has yet to be identified.

Police continue to investigate the crash.

Our thoughts go out to all those involved.

Sadly, despite safer vehicles, and most people driving with caution, Maine saw a spike in deaths involving motor vehicles in 2022.  According to the Joe Bornstein website, 177 people died in motor vehicle crashes in Maine in 2022.  That is the highest number of motor vehicle deaths in nearly two decades.  It comes very close to rivaling 2007, when 183 people died on Maine roads.

Hopefully, we'll see a big drop in the number of traffic deaths in Maine in 2023.
