Maine State Police Searching For Driver in Fatal I-95 Crash
The Maine State Police are continuing to search for the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal Tuesday morning crash on I-95 near Clinton, Maine.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, members of the Maine State Police were called to Interstate 95 early this morning for a serious single vehicle crash near mile marker 138.
The first reports suggested it happened in the southbound lane, but investigators later learned the 2025 GMC Savana rental van had actually come out of the northbound side. It went into the ditch, went airborne over the median crossover, and hit a tree with tremendous force.
Troopers found a passenger inside who was critically hurt and immediately began life saving efforts. The passenger was taken to a nearby hospital but, unfortunately, did not survive.
Officials are holding back the person’s name until the family has been notified.
Witnesses told troopers they saw a male driver run from the scene before help arrived. They said he was wearing dark clothes and carrying a dark backpack as he disappeared into the woods. Maine S tate Police searched through most of the day with help from the K9 team and the Airwing, but the driver has not been found.
*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law
If you have any information about the driver, you are being asked to call 911 or the Maine State Police's Bangor office at 207.973.3700.
