Maine Man Dead Following Wednesday Morning Fire
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the Maine Fire Marshal's Office is in the process of investigating a fire that claimed the life of a man living in the Aroostook County town of Presque Isle.
The press release explains that, early Wednesday morning, February 11, crews were called to a house fire at 139 Ginn Road in Presque Isle. The call came in at about 3:45 AM.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the second floor of the home. Two people inside were able to get out safely. Crews were told a third person was still inside and believed to be on the second floor.
A team from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene. One adult man was later found deceased inside the home. Investigators say the fire started in the man’s bedroom. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The victim will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
Presque Isle Fire was assisted by Presque Isle Police, Easton Fire Department, Caribou Fire and Ambulance, Versant Power, and Mapleton Fire Department, which covered the station during the response.
Investigators also determined a working smoke detector on the first floor alerted the two occupants who escaped. There were no working smoke detectors on the second floor, where the fire started. More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
