Five Below Announces Opening Date For Waterville, Maine, Location

These days, nearly all of us are looking for a way to save a few bucks.

One of the most popular ways to save some money is by shopping at discount stores.

One of the great things about discount stores in the 2020s is that there is a brand for everyone.

If you are really on a budget, you have Dollar Stores and Dollar Trees.  For those who want luxury products, but want to save some cash, you have TJ Maxx and HomeGoods.  If you're in the middle of the road and just want to save a few dollars, your best bet is Five Below.

What is Five Below?

The story of Five Below starts in a coffee shop.  Two friends, Tom and David, were having a coffee while discussing ideas for new businesses.

The Five Below website explains:

They land on an idea for the ultimate kids’ brand, defining it and inking it on the back of the napkin. It’s the inspiration for what will become Five Below, and it’s been a promise since Day 1. All thanks to two brilliant entrepreneurs… and a lot of coffee.

Basically, every item in the store, from clothing to smartphone accessories, costs less than $5.

Lately, they have made a slight change to the concept.  There are a few premium items that cost slightly more.  However, even those premium items cost way less than you would expect to pay for them.

The first Five Below store opened in Wayne, Pennsylvania, in 2022.  By 2008, the chain had reached 100 stores.  As of 2024, the chain has over 1,200 stores across the country.

When Does Five Below in Waterville Open?

We are getting close to the opening date for the newest Five Below location in Maine.

The Waterville location, which is in the Elm Plaza, has a sign up saying that the grand opening will be on Friday, August 16th, 2024.

Keep in mind that does not mean customers won't get a taste of the store sooner.  Many retailers do soft openings leading up to the scheduled grand opening.

If you peek in the window, you will see most bare shelves (as of July 31st, at least).  We can expect that to change very soon.
