Hannaford Supermarkets, based in Scarborough, Maine, have announced that they have made a $250,000 donation to the American Farmland Trust relief fund.

The American Farmland Trust was put in place at the beginning of March as a way to help farms throughout the United States that are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The agriculture industry lost revenue streams from multiple sources during the very abrupt closer of Schools, farmers' markets, grocery stores, and restaurants.

This relief fund offers grants that will help farmers as they face COVID-19 related challenges. Such as making an online storefront to help boost business or by adding new safety and sanitary protocols.

Hannaford's significant donation to the American Farmland Trust relief fund will help a total of 250 farms in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York, with 100 of those being local Maine farms.
