The good news is Maine has increased 7 spots in rank, up to #16 from #23 in 2017 according to a report by the United Health Foundation. However, Maine still falls below other New England states in the rankings. Here's how the state of Maine fared compared to the rest of the country:

  • High cancer death rate
  • High prevalence of excessive drinking
Our Highlights
  • In the past five years, smoking decreased 15% from 20.3% to 17.3% of adults
  • In the past year, children in poverty decreased 24% from 17.2% to 13.1% of children aged 0 to 17
