
You’ll Be Surprised By How Many Registered Hunters There Are in Maine
Given the fact that Maine has, for decades, been known as an outdoorsman's paradise, it should not be a big surprise that we are a state of hunters.
No matter where you live in the state, there is a good chance that you know at least a few people who are avid hunters. You'll see them posting pictures on Facebook of the deer or birds they took down. Sometimes I even hear them talking about the previous day's hunt while we're waiting for the Sunday morning church service to begin.

How Many Hunters Are There in the State of Maine?
According to a recent article from Stacker, about 11.5% of the state's population are registered hunters. That equates to about 155,000 licensed hunters in Maine.
That makes Maine the state with the 10th most hunters per capita in the nation.
The State of Maine also makes bank off hunting licenses. The Stacker article explains that the state makes about $7,587,437 gross off licensing fees.

What About the Other New England States?
Vermont came in 11th place with 10.3% of the population being a licensed hunter. That equates to just under 65,000 licensed hunters.
Surprisingly, New Hampshire came in 32nd place with only 4.1% of the state's population having a hunting license.
Connecticut came in 44th place with about 1% of the state's population registered to hunt.
Massachusetts came in 46th place with about 0.8% of the state's residents being registered to hunt. Even though that is a low percentage, it still means that nearly 57,000 Massachusetts residents are licensed to hunt.
