We've all be hearing a lot about Elon Musk over the last few months.  Every time you turn around, there is another story about the industrialist doing battle with politicians or with certain social media platforms.  Actually, lately, we've been hearing about him BUYING a social media platform.

Of course, the South African native is well known for two of his businesses - car company Tesla and space infrastructure company Space-X.

Sometimes, we forget about Starlink, the entrepreneur's satellite internet company.

Many of us first heard about Starlink in 2019, we the first "constellation" of the internet providing satellites was launched.  It was a big deal because some people were reportedly able to see the groups of satellites with their naked eyes.

In development since the early 2000s, the goal of the service is the provide internet to underserved countries and to provide internet to off the grid sections of first world countries (like the US).

For example, someone living in the woods of northern Maine or people living on the smaller islands off the coast of Maine.

So, is it available in New England?

Yes!  Of course, there are parts of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, etc where is is not available due to line of sight issues.  The best way to find out if it is available is your area is to enter your address on the Starlink website.

You can also take a look at the Starlink coverage map.  Find that HERE

What does it cost?

The equipment costs about $600.  The month service fee is about $110.  There is also a business version that costs $2500 for the equipment.  That has a $500 per month service cost.

Is it worth it?

Probably...  If you have limited options for the internet in your area or if you like to travel to backcountry areas.  However, for most of us, it is not going to be your best option - yet.

Do you have the service?  If you do, let us know how you like it.  Message us through our Facebook or app.
