Police Identify Woman Killed in Wednesday Crash in Harpswell, Maine
Authorities have identified the woman killed in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Harpswell, Maine.
According to WMTW, a representative for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says a 41-year-old man was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado north on Harpswell Islands Road, Route 24, around 2:49 PM when the truck crossed the centerline, went into the opposite lane, and hit a parked 2019 BMW X3 on the shoulder.
Investigators say the BMW’s driver, 71-year-old Jean Appleby Johnson, had gotten out of her vehicle moments earlier and was hit by the truck.
Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, Johnson died there.
The driver of the Silverado was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and it’s not yet clear if charges will be filed.
Our thoughts go out to all those involved in this tragic incident.
