According to the KJ and a press release put out by the Maine State Police, deadly force was used to end a hostage situation in Livermore Falls.

The incident, which began early on March 8th, ended early this morning (March 9th) when police used deadly force and the hostage-taker was killed.  All four of the hostages are safe.  The remaining three hostages had a tearful reunion early this morning.

The officer who used deadly force on Mr. White has been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation into the incident.

According to police, the hostage taker, Donald White, was known to the family.

According to statements in the press release, there are explosive devices in the Knapp Street home.  As a result, police are still working to secure the area.

The the press release, Lieutenant Joseph Sage, of the Livermore Falls Police Department, said:

"I can say with a degree of certainty that the community, of Livermore Falls and this fine State of Maine, have some of the most dedicated, committed, and specialized Officers available.  On behalf of the Livermore Falls Police Department, and the Community of Livermore Falls, I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the Officers of the Law Enforcement community that responded without delay for the best available resolution. I would also like to thank the members of this community for their continued support of Law Enforcement personnel. Throughout the day, many citizens, businesses, and charities offered their assistance.  The VFW Post 3335 offered warming shelter and nourishment to any Law Enforcement in need, we say Thank You.  First Church of Livermore Falls Offered shelter and nourishment throughout the day to the family and friends directly involved in this tragic incident. We Say Thank You."

According to the KJ, there is a hostage situation in progress in Livermore Falls.

At some point in the night, or early morning, neighbors heard a loud bang.  No one is sure what time that was.  However, we do know that police were called at approximately 5:45 AM on Monday (March 8th).

Three people are being held at the house at 48 Knapp Street.

Reportedly, there are three people being held in the house.  All are reportedly being restrained with zip ties.

Initially, there were four people being held, but one escaped.

Portions of Cargill Street and Knapp Street, as well as several adjacent streets are blocked off.

In addition to Livermore Falls police, Jay Police, members of the  Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Maine State Police are on site.
