Will the Los Angeles Wildfires Affect Air Quality in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts?
Over the last few days, we have all watched the tragedy unfolding in the Los Angeles area.
According to NBC News, the Los Angeles wildfires, which started in the Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, were caused by dry conditions and unprecedented winds.
The news station reported that so far, there are 16 people confirmed dead as a result of the fire. Some of those people reportedly lost their lives while they were trying to prevent the fire from engulfing their homes.
Additionally, several people have been injured while battling the blazes, according to NBC News.
The fires have also destroyed dozens of structures and caused millions of dollars in damage, the news station reported..
Even though we are on the opposite side of the country as the fires, you may have been wondering if we would be affected by these fires.
Considering how, in the past, we have seen the air quality in New England affected by fires in Western Canada, it is not such an outrageous question.
Will the Los Angeles Wildfires Affect Air Quality in New England?
Fortunately, it looks as though Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and the rest of the New England states will not be affected by the California wildfires.
As the winds are blowing southwest, the majority of the smoke is blowing out to sea.
USA Today has an interactive map that shows the locations of wildfires and smoke plumes across the nation.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of California as they deal with this tragedy.
