The Victim of the Five-Vehicle Crash in Augusta, Maine, Has Been Identified
According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, a portion of the southbound side of I-95 in Augusta was closed for several hours on Friday afternoon due to a multi-vehicle crash.
The crash, which involved five vehicles, happened at about 3 PM in a construction zone near Exit 113.
During a period when traffic was stopped in a construction zone, a pick-up truck rear-ended a sport utility vehicle. That’s what sparked the five-vehicle crash.
Most of the injuries resulting from the crash were not serious. Those who were injured were taken to MaineGeneral. However, a woman who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead on the scene. A dog in the same vehicle was also killed.
The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Sari Ohmart, of Brewer.
The driver of the SUV has been identified as the victim’s husband, 70-year-old Leslie Ohmart, of Brewer.
The driver of the pick-up that struck the SUV has been identified as 28-year-old Robin Carter, of Limerick.
During the investigation and cleanup, traffic was diverted off Exit 113.
That section of the I-95 reopened at about 6 PM.
Sadly, 2024 is shaping up to be a very deadly year on Maine’s roads and highways. According to the World Population Review website, there have been at least 164 traffic deaths in Maine so far in 2024.
