Maine Teen Suicide Prevention: Warning Signs and Resources
Families, friends and entire communities, are affected by teen suicide.
We would like to share some resources with our listeners. The Maine Teen Suicide Prevention Hotline has important information for all of us. You do not have to be suicidal to call the hotline. Please reach out for help as soon as you recognize that you are in crisis. Talking to someone who listens and cares can be the first step to turning your situation around. The Maine Teen Suicide Prevention Hotline number is 1-888-568-1112. Please do not hesitate to call and connect with a crisis worker.
Here are some warning signs listed on the Teen Suicide Prevention website to be aware of:
- talking about suicide
- substance abuse
- anxiety and inability to sleep
- feeling trapped or hopeless
- withdrawal from friends and family
- anger
- reckless behavior
- dramatic mood changes
STRONG signs of a suicidal crisis:
- someone who is threatening to hurt or kill themselves
- someone who is looking for the means to kill themselves
- someone who is talking or writing about death, dying or suicide
