Paul Gregg of Missouri was able to take down a 15 point buck during archery deer season using a primitive weapon called an Atlatl.

Gregg is not the first to get a buck with the weapon but it is rare and far in between. His buck is believed to be the largest ever using the Atlatl. During archery season in Missouri the atlatls have been allowed for hunting since 2010. Missouri is the one of two states that allows the primitive weapon, the other is Alabama.

Predating the bow and arrow, atlatls are one of the oldest and most primitive weapons still in use. It is comprised of a four- to six-foot-long dart that looks like a cross between a spear and an arrow. The dart is placed on a launcher—the atlatl itself—that has a socket toward the rear to hold or engage the dart. With a forward throw, the hunter flicks the launcher forward and propels the dart like a spear.
