Target & Walmart Now Enforcing New Cash Policy at Stores in Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts
These days, it feels like almost no one still pays for things with cash.
Whether it's at a major retailer, a mom-and-pop shop, or a gas station, nearly everyone is using their credit/debit card or paying using their Android or iPhone.
Honestly, the only time I find myself using is cash is when I am buying lottery tickets or very small items like a coffee or pack of chewing gum (I need the latter because of the prior).
Even though most people know how easy it is to use your cards and phones to pay for things, it looks like it may soon be more difficult to use cash at some major retailers.
Target, Walmart, and Other Retailers Are Now Enforcing New Cash Policies
Dario AS is reporting that major retailers Walmart and Target will no longer accept certain cash.
The report explains that the Bureau of Engraving, the Secret Service, and the Advanced Counterfeit Deterrence Steering Committee have released new guidelines with the goal of preventing major retailers from accepting mutilated money.
Basically, participating retailers, like Target and Walmart, will no longer accept currency that is burned, cut, taped together, discolored, or deteriorated.
The goal is to prevent the circulation of damaged or counterfeit cash.
If you have 'mutilated' cash in your wallet or pocket keep in mind that you may not be able to use it at participating stores.
If you have money like this, you can get details about trading it from the Bureau of Engraving & Printing website.
