A few days ago, I had a chance to stop by the showroom at Hamelin’s Furniture in Waterville to check out some of their newest products and furniture lines. This was not my first visit to Hamelin’s Furniture. Recently, I bought a Flexsteel couch from them. And, let me tell you, it is the best quality couch we’ve ever owned. And, I know this because I am the mother of a rough and tumble boy.

As it's the start of a new year, many take this time to do some home redecorating. The experts at Hamelin's gave me some tips that will hopefully help you save time and money while making your home the envy of the block.

Three Things You Need To Know To Furnish Your Home

# 1- Start with the basics

The first thing you should do is make a list of each room that you’re planning to furnish. Then, make a list of pieces you want to purchase for each room. For example, a couch and matching recliner for the living room, a new dresser for the master bedroom, and an area rug for the game room. This planning will make it a lot easier to stick to your budget.

# 2 - Figure out your style

Before you start purchasing random items, take time to figure out what your style is. Are you more of a neutrals type person that likes to change up simple décor by adding a colorful piece here or there? Or maybe, you are more of a bold and colorful person that likes statement pieces. Either way, figure out your style and what works best for you.

 # 3 - Measure your spaces and doorways

I cannot stress this one enough. Maybe it’s because I’ve been the person standing outside my house with furniture that won’t fit through the doorway. So, learn from my mistakes and measure everything! Twice! Remember, looks can be deceiving both when you're shopping online and in-store. Be sure to measure the door frames, measure the place you plan on putting the item, and take the 3 extra minutes to measure the piece of furniture.

So, when it is time to furnish your home, head to Hamelin’s Furniture on South Street in Waterville. It should not come as a big surprise that they are experts in furniture and customer service, they have been selling furniture to the good people of Central Maine for four generations.

Not only do they carry high quality merchandise, the quality of customer service they offer is unmatched. From the time you walk in the door, when you are greeted with smiles (behind the masks), you are treated as if you are a member of their family. Trust me, I know from experience!
