According to Bangor Daily News, Viles Arboretum, located in Augusta, is getting a new executive director. Ryan Martin will replace current executive director Mark P. DesMeules in July.

DesMeules spent the last 12 years as the executive director of Viles Arboretum. During his time with the aorboretum, they saw an increase in memberships, new programs were created for schools, and he made sure trees were tagged with identification. The board of directors is thankful for DesMeules and all he has done over the past 12 years.

Ryan Martin was selected as the new executive director based on his prior experience with non-profits and his enthusiasm to share his love of environmental education. Martin spent his previous years at the Tilton School of New Hampshire, where he was the director of the school's summer program.  Before that, he worked for the Isleboro Adventure Camp and was also a part of the Maine Trust for Education.

In addition to a new executive director, Viles Arboretum will be breaking ground on a  a new education center this summer.

If you are unfamiliar with The Viles Arboretum, it is 224 acres of wetlands, forest and botanical gardens that is located in the City of Augusta. To learn more about the Arboretum and the programs it has to offer check out their website at vilesarboretum.org
