According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, a 21 year old woman from Waterville has been charged in connection with a Monday evening incident in Waterville.

At about 7:45 PM on Monday (December 13th), police responded to a report of a person screaming in the area near the intersection of Front and Main Streets.  Shortly after they got there, police spotted several fires at the construction site of the Colby College Paul J. Schupf Arts Center.

The fires were put out and the investigation into what happened began.  Investigators found that at least six fires had been set (or were attempted to be set).  Damaged in the fire were construction materials, a dumpster, and the building itself.  A monetary value for the damage has not been announced.

Shortly after the investigation began, 21 year old Alisa Carey was located and she appeared to have burns on her hands.

The press release goes on to say:

The investigation determined that Alisa Carey was responsible for setting the fires.  Carey was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and then taken to the Kennebec County Jail.  While at the hospital, Alisa assaulted one of the Fire Investigators and a Waterville Police Officer.  Alisa was charged with Arson and two counts of Assault on a Police Officer.

Carey had been on probation for a previous arson charge.
