According to an article on the WABI website, a Maine man is dead following a Wednesday night shooting incident at a home in the Penobscot County town of Lincoln.

The article explains that at about 8:30 on Wednesday night they received word that Derek Beach was at a home on Whalen Street.  He was not supposed to be at that residence due to a protection from abuse order and conditions of release that forbid him from being at the home.

According to a police representative, officers attempted to negotiate with Beach.  When that failed to work, they used their tasers on him.

At that time, Beach reportedly lunged at one of the officers with a knife.  Police responded with gunfire.

Derek Beach was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is standard protocol, the officers have been placed on administrative leave and the Office of the Attorney General will investigate the use of deadly force.

There were no reports of other injuries from the incident.
