Popular Maine Swimming Spot Closes Indefinitely
As much of Maine continues to deal with this week's heatwave, many people are staying cool by visiting their favorite beaches and swimming holes.
Unfortunately, one popular Maine swimming hole has been forced to temporarily close.
According to an article on the WGME website, Windham's Dundee Pond, located on the Presumscot River, will be closed indefinitely to allow needed repair work on a nearby dam.
Relevate Power, a New York hydroelectric power company, has drained the pond so that repairs can be made to the Great Falls Dam.

While no definite timeline has been provided by the company, it looks as though the swimming spot could be unusable for the duration of the summer. Relevate Power has estimated that the work will be done by the first part of August, but it will take several weeks for the pond's water level to rise enough for people to swim. Some people are estimating that the pond may not be usable before Labor Day.
The article explains that town leaders had no warning that the drain was going to happen. The officials told WGME that the pond had been drained in the spring, and they were confident that the needed repairs were done at that time.
Even though Dundee Pond is closed, Maine is filled with beaches that are great for swimming and hanging out. Check out this list of nine free Maine beaches. Some may require a bit of a walk or drive, but they are definitely worth the trip.
